Manual Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (OMPT)

Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy is a hands on based treatment which includes joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part or work against the clinician's resistance to improve muscle activation and timing.

Dry Needling

Involves the insertion of fine filament needles directly into myofascial trigger points (pin pointing specific areas, targeting deeper muscles and joints, reducing muscle spasm and scar tissue along with the treatment of chronic injuries such as tendinitis and repetitive strain injuries.

Doctors Referral

Rehabilitation for Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Accident victims and Department of Veteran's Affairs. A referral is required by your GP for the treatment of any injuries sustained at your place of work or if you are involved in a car or motorbike accident and wish to go through a claimable insurance body. This also applies to Veterans who have injured themselves.

Falls Prevention Program

A collaborative team approach between our physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologist provide individually tailored home exercise programs to prevent falls and fall injuries in the elderly.

We are one of only 3 Newcastle physiotherapy practices that conduct Functional Pre-employment assessments

Baby Massage & Pregnancy

Our Women's Health physiotherapist has had specialist training in this field to teach you how to massage your baby effectively and correctly, this will often only require one treatment session.

Treatment and management of pregnancy related back pain. Our Women's Health physiotherapist has attended specialist training to teach you specific pregnancy stretches and a back strengthening program which will provide you with relief as your pregnancy progresses.

Casting and Splinting

Casting and splinting helps stabilise fractures, reduce pain, swelling and muscle spasm. Lower limb fractures normally require approximately 6 weeks of immobilisation. Upper limbs around 4 weeks. Casting materials used are either Plaster or waterproof fibre glass. Additionally we are able to fit a Cam Boot Walker at your doctor's request if the fracture is not too serious or post cast removal if necessary.

Taping

We provide a wide range of taping techniques used to support, stabilise and facilitate optimal joint movement in both the acute or chronic phases of treatment. We use both Kinesio and rigid tape depending on the injury and stage of rehabilitation.

Post Specialist Rehabilitation

At Newcastle Integrated Physiotherapy your physiotherapist will work closely with your Orthopaedic Specialist providing progress reports on how you are progressing with your rehabilitation on a regular basis. This means that we have a thorough understanding of the post-surgical protocols of your surgeon.

  • Knee and ankle reconstructions (such as ACL reconstruction)

  • Total joint replacements

Headache Management

Headaches are frequently caused by joint/muscular dysfunction in the neck, poor posture, stress or increased tension. Physiotherapy can assist in the management of headaches and migraines by addressing musculoskeletal dysfunction in your neck, thoracic spine and shoulders.

Following a thorough assessment your physiotherapy treatment may consist of:

  • Joint mobilisation stiff or unstable upper neck and jaw joints are common causes of headaches.
  • Core neck muscle retraining weakness in the deep stabilising muscles of the neck and trunk have been highlighted in recent scientific studies that cervical headache sufferers have developed.
  • Short Term Memory 
  • Postural education and correction
  • Ultrasound, electrotherapy and heat application
  • Dry needling
  • Ergonomic Assessment and correction - looking at the individual's workstation setup may result in poor posture placing excessive strain on your neck.
